Summit Valley Horse Center’s third annual charity golf tournament will be held Monday July 15 at Keystone Golf Course, with an 8am shotgun start. Each year this tournament has offered participants a raucously good time while playing golf, with lunch, a silent auction, and prizes for various contests along the course. This tournament is fast becoming a favorite among locals and is expected to sell out. (side bar)

- Shotgun start 8am at the beautiful Keystone Golf Course, Keystone Colorado
- Single Golfer Price $175 and includes lunch.
- Each Foursome is $700 and includes lunch.
- Mulligan package $80 per foursome available at course includes 8 mulligans, 4 drawing tickets and chance to move up on 2 longest holes.
- Additional mulligans available.
- During lunch prizes will be awarded for various contests based on three flights (ability levels) of golfers to first & second place winners.
All proceeds benefit Summit Valley Horse Center, a Colorado 501c3 non-profit that rehabilitates rescued horses, while bringing people of all ages and backgrounds the chance to experience the joy of human- horse connections.
“We have a two-fold mission,” explains Executive Director Lizzie Kanetsky “exemplified by our tagline People helping horses helping people.”
"Each summer we partner with several horse rescues in Colorado to help train and rehabilitate their horses at our ranch in Silverthorne,” Kanetsky explains further.
Trained volunteers work tirelessly over the summer to help rebuild these horses into trusted companions that families will want to adopt by summer’s end. SVHC’s success rate is laudable.
An equally important mission of Summit Valley Horse Center is to make it possible for people of all ages and backgrounds to have a chance to connect with horses and the traditional ranching lifestyle. There are few places in Summit County where children of all means can come to learn about the nature of horses and get hands-on experience in grooming, relating to, training and riding these animals. It’s equally rare for adults to have a place to learn about horses and build their horsemanship skills, eventually learning how to train rescued horses to be rideable and adoptable.
“Through programs offered with our trained horses — our minis, ponies and full-size horses — we give residents and visitors to Summit County the rare opportunity to spend quality time with horses, learn how to connect and communicate with them, and experience the joy that simply being with horses can bring,” said Summit Valley Horse Center Board President Craig Robelen. He adds, “It’s also a way to preserve the ranching heritage we have in Summit County, as so much of traditional ranching experiences are being lost to development.”
Funded largely by proceeds from the ReSaddled Thrift Store in Silverthorne, and staffed by volunteers, Summit Valley Horse Center also accepts corporate sponsorships and private donations from those who wish to support their mission. Donations support operating expenses such as feed, supplements, farrier, and veterinary care for the horses. Funds are also used to cover tuition for children whose parents couldn’t otherwise afford to involve them in SVHC’s many programs.
“This golf tournament is our biggest annual fundraising Event,” adds Kanetsky, “the proceeds make a real difference in the lives of our horses and our Summit County community.”
And, the tournament is truly a whole lot of fun for all who get involved.
With a grin, Kanetsky adds, “Where else can you find an opportunity to have fun playing golf, help horses, and impact your community so positively?”
